Question of the Day

Question of the Day

This is a glorious Monday morning, mainly because my boss is out for the first half of the day. I came in, did a little work, read the paper, went through my work emails, went through my personal emails, did a little more work, made a list of things to do this week, visited with my coworker/friend and just generally took it easy.

You know the expression: the cat's away, the mice will play. It doesn't seem to matter whether or not you like your boss, but just having them not be there takes all kinds of pressure off you. Some people take their boss' absence to really goof off, while others just relax a bit.

Question of the Day: What's your favorite thing to do when your boss is out of the office?

  • Back when I had a 'real' job, lol, we would really milk every minute we could out of our morning "staff meeting" when the boss was out. Drinking coffee, catching up on what was going on in our personal lives... it was really a nice way to start the day. We didn't lounge around for too long of course, just a few extra minutes... but it was enough.

  • Well, do not be a hater, but I am one of those 'lucky' ones who works from home. However, I have to admit to checking email on my blackberry from bed and if there is nothing pressing I will hit snooze for another 10-30 minutes. This works well when you are up late rooting for a Steeler victory!

  • If I know ahead of time she will be out, I come in late. And if she leaves early or does not come in, I will leave early.

  • my department has 3 people - my boss, me and someone under me named heather. i use any absence of my boss to order heather around. last week, i made her get me coffee and this week when my boss goes to the dentist i will make heather file all of my paperwork.

  • When my boss isn't around, i get all of my work done really fast. then, I do the crossword puzzle and do some online shopping. (And sometimes I watch Scooby Doo on my computer!)

  • Working in a school environment, When the boss is not around I try to surf the web for some interesting ideas, or enjoy some free games online or the good ole' hidden picture puzzle from the highlights magazine. I love those puzzles. Keeps me young!

  • I like to leisurely read the paper, skip out a little early for lunch and head back a little later, and catch up on my personal business!!!!

  • I have a TV on my desk, so I watch all the shows I like - Jeopardy!, Bob Ross, Jon and Kate Plus 8, What Not to Wear, and Cash Cab. Then I watch stuff on You Tube and play on Facebook.
